With Christmas shopping starting earlier every year, October is when most of us start thinking not just about what to buy, but how to wrap it — and it's worth pausing on that second question before the boxes of paper come out.

The UK gets through an enormous amount of wrapping paper every Christmas, much of it glittered, laminated or foil-backed in ways that make it impossible to recycle. A little thought now makes a real difference come January.

The simplest swap is to choose gifts that need less wrapping in the first place. Our ready-to-give gift boxes arrive beautifully presented straight away, cutting out the need for paper, ribbon and sticky tape altogether — genuinely useful when you're wrapping a pile of presents against the clock.

When you do wrap, plain brown kraft paper is fully recyclable and, dressed up with natural string, a sprig of dried foliage or a simple wax seal, looks far more considered than shiny printed paper ever does. Fabric wrapping — the Japanese furoshiki technique of wrapping gifts in reusable cloth — is another lovely option for a gift you want to feel extra special.

Save and reuse what you can. Gift bags, ribbon and tissue paper all survive multiple Christmases if handled carefully when unwrapping — a habit worth starting with family early, before the paper ends up in a heap on the floor.

We're committed to sustainable packaging across our own range, because how a gift arrives matters almost as much as what's inside it. A beautiful, lasting gift deserves wrapping that doesn't undo the thought behind it.

Browse our ready-to-give gift boxes or shop our full customer favourites collection to find beautifully presented gifts that need little to no wrapping at all.
